CATAMOUNT HILL ASSOCIATION
Catamount Hill in Colrain, Massachusetts was settled starting in 1765 and continuing throughout the years following the American Revolution. Most of the settler families came from other places in New England and were relocating because of the economic and social upheavals resulting from the war. Although the Hill was not highly desirable land, it was still-unsettled and available.
Because of the Hill’s remoteness, similar cultural norms, and intermarriage among the families, a strong community identity developed and the connections remained even as the Hill slowly depopulated over time.
Descendants of these families have been meeting every five years since forming the Catamount Hill Association in 1875. Our meetings are open to all descendants and to friends who are interested in the lives of our forbears. We gather at Quinquennial Reunions and annual meetings to renew old bonds and share information about our intertwined family histories. Our next Quinquennial Reunion will be in 2025.
